About Medellin

The best weather in the world you will find it in Medellin . A lot of people come here because of the climate and some of them decided to stay for living.

This city is located in a heavily populated area which is a hub of economic activity, big companies were born in Medellin that is why habitants are known as hard-working.

It is an small city, it is easy to get around on public transport and on foot. You can reach any point in the city by metro, bus and taxi. But as a suggestion you should get information about buses before you go out or you should call a taxi from your hotel, it is not recommended to take a taxi in the street. We can offer you a taxi service in order to pick you up wherever you are or a rental car if you prefer. Driving in Medellin it is not difficult, transit rules are basically the same as any other country.

People speak Spanish which is the official language of Colombia and most of the countries of South America . But if you don't speak Spanish, don't worry people here will find the way to understand you because they are open and welcoming.

To give you a rough idea of prices, a single metro or bus ticket costs 1USD, a coffee costs between 0.50USD and 1USD and a lunch menu between 7 and 15 USD.

 

Climate

Medellin enjoys sunshine during all the year there are just some seasons of rainfalls where the temperature is around 15 and 25 C° which is the hottest hour of the day normally in the midday but you will normally feel comfortable with the weather.

You can also travel few miles away (1 hour) to the north if you want a hotter town and to the south if you prefer a colder place to visit where people go to ride horses in groups and to practice different kind of sports.

 

How to get there

There are two flights from Miami airport every day towards Jose Maria Airport in Rionegro which is 1 hour away from Medellin , you can take a taxi from here. You can also arrive to El Dorado international airport in Bogota if you come from another country.

 

Medellin city center

Medellin has a nice Metro which is also a good option to go through the city from south to north including two lines and a metrocable which takeds you up to the mountain where you can see the houses of , including nine metro and FGC lines, two tram lines and an extensive fleet of buses. The ring roads, or rondes, have eased traffic congestion in the city. Thousand taxis, with their yellow livery, provide a rapid and efficient service, and are available at all times either by pre-booking or by hailing them in the street.

 

Culture and activities

You will always find something to do in Medellin . The city has over museums, At the Museo de Antioquia you can see one of the world's most important collections of Fernando Botero an artist who likes painting big people. It also has famous collections of contemporary art housed in museums such as the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM).

The city is also a showcase for the best of the country's theatrical talent, you can visit the Pablo Tobon Theatre and the Aguila descalza theatre where you wil always find a nice and funny comedy.

And that's not all... You will also find areas where you can play sports in the open air and a whole host of leisure attractions. Medellin is a box of surprises which will keep you entertained with countless cultural and recreational activities.

 

Feria de Flores

Now lets talk about the Feria de la flores (flowers carnival), which is one of the most important festivities of the city, happiness, party, culture, tourist and residents .

Every year, the focus is particularly on more innovative proposals, those aimed at attracting new audiences, as well as shows for the whole family. There are more than 180 events where the most important are "Humor City", "Tablado Cultural Nocturno", Silleteros Parade, Orquideas, Pajaros y Flores (Orchids, birds and flowers ), Horses parade, Age-old cars Parade, Chivas y Flores and shows everywhere along the city.

Safety and Security

Buy a local map, familiarize yourself with the city and location of your hotel. With the help of hotel employees locate unsafe areas of the city and avoid visiting them by any means.
Do not stay out on the streets late at night. When walking, remain on wide, well-lit streets. If necessary, arrange for taxi service.

Business Hours

The working day usually begins between 7:30am and 8am and people break for lunch at 12pm. In the afternoon, businesses open from 10am until 5:30 or 6 pm. Shopping centers have long opening hours, from 10am to 8pm or 9pm.

 

Local Time

Time in Colombia is based on Greenwich Meridian Time with a difference of five or six hours, depending on the season. When it is 12 noon in Colombia, in London it is 5 pm, in Madrid 6 pm, in New York 12 noon and in Los Angeles 9 am. In summer the difference increases one hour.
